Carrie Coplan
My Role at OSU:
Career Counselor
My Career Path:
With a vague idea about wanting to go into something in “Business”, I majored in Communications and Spanish at the University of Illinois. I began my career in the “real world” as a project analyst at a large bank in Chicago, where I learned a lot about banking, management, business, and myself! I learned so much about myself that after my first year of work, I decided to join AmeriCorps VISTA to work as a professional volunteer for a year before going back to graduate school. I pursued and received my Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri-Columbia so I could help other people learn about themselves.
The Rewards in Doing what I do:
Helping people discover themselves, and watching as they get excited about the possibilities for their life. Also, I get to meet a lot of different people and learn about the really cool jobs that are out there!
My Words of Wisdom to Students:
Try out as many things as you can – classes, clubs, volunteering, part-time jobs, internships, exchange programs, anything you can to experience new things and find out what you truly love! And don’t be afraid to make mistakes – learn from them and keep trying!
