The Black Cultural Center was established in 1975 so that African Americans could have a center of their own. It was named after Lonnie B. Harris, who was the first director of the Educational Opportunities Programs, created in March 1969. The mission of the center is to complement the academic program of studies and enrich the quality of campus life for African and African American students.
