On April 11, 2013, Oregon State University was recognized as a Gold Campus through the Fresh Air Campus Challenge, a first-of-its-kind, region-wide effort to engage all colleges and universities throughout the Pacific Northwest to develop and implement a smoke- or tobacco-free campus policy. OSU has been additionally designated as a Mentor Campus to assist other colleges and universities moving forward with smoke-free or tobacco-free policies.
