Spring

  • First-Year Experience Task Force assembled, given charge

Summer

  • Task Force holds campus-wide, first-year experience open forums to gather community input on the strengths and areas in need of development
  • University announces new policy that requires all first-year students to live on campus beginning fall 2013

Fall

2013 

Summer

  • First-Year Advising Council assembled to develop enhancements to first-year academic advising, including:
    • an early alert/checkpoint program
    • an first-year advising delivery structure
    • a first-year advising syllabus

Fall

  • Live-on housing requirement goes into effect; approximately 90 percent, or 4,600 students, move in to campus residence halls
  • Early alert/checkpoint pilot launched in key first-year classes: CH 121, 201, 231; MTH 111; FOR 111; OSU-Cascades U-Engage section
  • Residential Curriculum implemented in all residence halls
  • CONNECT Crew peer mentoring pilot begins for east campus residence halls 
  • First-Year Advising Council's recommended enhancements to first-year advising unanimously approved by Faculty Senate Academic Advising Council
  • ESTEME@OSU awarded a three-year, $2 million grant by the National Science Foundation’s WIDER program to implement evidence-based instructional practices in calculus-based 100- and 200-level biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics courses
  • University awarded a two-year, $300,000 grant to pilot a new academic support and enhancement program in the university's four Cultural Centers
  • Traditions Steering Committee convened
  • Diversity Student Success Council convened
  • Experiential Learning and the FYE Task Force convened

2014 

Winter

  • First community-of-practice sessions made available for instructors of first-year and orientation courses

Fall

  • Comprehensive checkpoint system to be implemented
  • First-year advising syllabus to be implemented
  • First-year advising structural changes--change-of-major process, required quarterly appointments during students' first three terms at the university, and first-year advising FTE noted in certain academic advisors' position descriptions--to be implemented
  • Four new and enhanced living-learning communities to be made available to students
