Renaming the MS and PhD Degrees in Human Performance

1.  Current Name of Major:                        M.S. and Ph.D. in Human Performance

2.  Proposed Name of Major:                        M.S. and Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science

3.  Reason for Change

The graduate degrees in Human Performance were created in 1989, and they were named to reflect the College (Health and Human Performance) rather than the Department.  With the creation of the new College of Health and Human Sciences, which combines the Colleges of Health and Human Performance and Home Economics, there is no longer a connection between the name of the graduate degrees and the academic unit.  With this proposal, the degree name will have a clear association with the department in which it is offered.
