Memorandum
To: Bob Burton, Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs
From: Tim Schowalter, Interim Chair/Head, Entomology
The Department of Entomology hereby proposes to eliminate the undergraduate major in Entomology, effective with the 2003-2004 academic year. Our undergraduate major has been a small program, with only 1-2 new students per year and generally only 5-10 majors at a time. We will accommodate our incoming and current majors with available courses through graduation.
Other undergraduate programs should not be affected by elimination of this major. We will continue to offer undergraduate service courses for students in the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences (ENT 311), Forestry (ENT 415), and Science (ENT 300). However, courses offered strictly for undergraduate Entomology mafors (e.g., ENT 350) will be eliminated. This will alter some faculty teaching assignments and focus our teaching on our graduate program.
