Battle of the bands turns the MU Quad into a concert venue, with bands featuring at least one Oregon State student member competing before a panel of judges for the chance to open Oregon State’s Flat Tail Festival.
Flat Tail Festival The day after the Battle of the Bands winner is crowned, several mainstream bands take the stage in the MU Quad for the Flat Tail festival. This free event draws thousands of people to enjoy music from popular bands.
Commencement, held at the end of the academic year in mid-June in Reser Stadium, formally recognizes the achievements of our students and sends graduates on their next step in life. Like Convocation, the Commencement procession begins in the MU Quad and ends at Reser Stadium. At Oregon State, graduates still receive their diplomas during Commencement, a practice most universities have done away with.
Oregon State’s nationally ranked baseball team consistently fills the stands in Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, the oldest diamond in the Pac-12 Conference and one of the oldest college fields in the country. A recent expansion added nearly 1,000 seats. Recent baseball alumni include Jacoby Ellsbury and Darwin Barney.
Bard in the Quad puts a new spin on Shakespeare’s classics and takes place in the MU Quad during the summer.
