<p>The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the southern Willamette Valley through 5 p.m. today. Wind gusts have the potential to cause power â€œbumpsâ€? or outages that may affect our campus.</p>
<p>Faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution when walking or driving during high winds, and to take necessary steps to safeguard animals, research materials and other resources that might be threatened by power outages.</p>
<p>Below is the advisory from the National Weather Service:</p>
<p>&#8230;WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON FOR</p>
<p>THE SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY&#8230;</p>
<p>THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PORTLAND HAS ISSUED A WIND</p>
<p>ADVISORY&#8230;WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON.</p>
<p>A STRONG PACIFIC LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BE BRINGING GUSTY SOUTH</p>
<p>WINDS TO THE SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY TODAY. GUSTS TO AROUND 45</p>
<p>MPH ARE EXPECTED IN EXPOSED AREAS&#8230;WITH POSSIBLE GUSTS TO 50 MPH</p>
<p>IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON. THE WINDS WILL DECREASE BY LATE AFTERNOON</p>
<p>AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES AWAY. WINDS HAVE ALREADY GUSTED</p>
<p>TO NEAR 45 MPH IN BENTON COUNTY THIS MORNING.</p>
<p>A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE</p>
<p>31 TO 39 MPH OR GUSTS WILL RANGE BETWEEN 45 AND 57 MPH. WINDS OF</p>
<p>THESE MAGNITUDES MAY CAUSE MINOR PROPERTY DAMAGE WITHOUT EXTRA</p>
<p>PRECAUTIONS. MOTORISTS IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD USE</p>
<p>CAUTION UNTIL THE WINDS SUBSIDE.</p>
