Vose second graders Abigail Figueroa, from left, Helen Caldillo, Tyler Rench, front, Sergio Correa and Carlos Padilla wear matching Oregon State shirts to their school’s annual college awareness assembly. Vose Elementary students, many of whom are low income, began raising money last year to give a $1000 college scholarship to a graduating senior who had attended Vose. When the public caught wind of their kindness, they were able to offer two scholarships.

Congratulations to the scholarship recipients Eurie Hwang and Anthony Amsberry. Amsberry is planning to attend Oregon State University.

To the students, staff and supporters of Vose Elementary: These scholarships have helped two students go to college. Through your own personal goals, leadership roles, adversity, community service, systemic challenges and creativity, your kindness, generosity, hard work, and determination have shined through. These are important lessons in life that take many people a lifetime to acheive and we applaud you in doing so at such a young age. Keep up the great work and thank you for being a shining example to us all.

***Vose Elementary School plans to continue its scholarship program annually. For more information or to donate, call teacher Karen Harger at 503-672-3590.***

The deadline is fast approaching for the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) scholarship application. Every year, 30-35 international students from diverse backgrounds participate in this unique international education program that began at OSU over 25 years ago. The ICSP is a competitive scholarship in which recipients play the role of cultural ambassadors and give their time, talents and perspectives to audiences on the OSU campus as well as in the community throughout the school year. This partial tuition waiver of $10,000 reduces one’s tuition to about $7,300 per year. If you are interested, please be sure to complete and submit the ICSP scholarship application as well as the OSU application for admission by March 1. Graduate students, who have not been awarded a graduate assistantship, may also apply to and be awarded the ICSP scholarship. Selection of awardees generally takes place in May.

The International Provost Scholarship is another scholarship opportunity for international undergraduate students who meet OSU’s application for admission deadline and OSU’s minimum admission requirements, including the English language proficiency requirement for full admission. The application for admission deadline is April 1 for international undergraduate students outside the U.S. and June 1 for international undergraduate students currently in the U.S. No separate application is required to be considered for the IPS. This partial scholarship ($2,000-$6,000) is also competitive and based on merit, availability of funds and diversity of representation. Selection of awardees generally takes place in April and June.
