It is with great excitement that I bring to you all the news about our Global Formula Racing team. They recently competed at Michigan International Speedway, which is considered to be the national championship of Formula SAE racing, and won first place for the third consecutive year. Not only did we win first place overall but we also won first place in engineering design, endurance, and the SAE Spirit of Excellence.

The competition included 120 teams from all around the world. A majority of the teams came from the United States, Canada, Austria, Germany, Finland, Singapore, South Korea and the United Kingdom.

OSU’s Global Formula Racing team finished their 2011 season in Europe, competing in Austria and Germany. The Formula SAE team is a student organization mainly comprised of students in the College of Engineering.

After winning the FSAE Championship in Michigan, the team and their European collegiate partners, Duale Hochschule Baden Wurttemberg Ravensburg of Germany, competed in both US and European competitions.

The Global Formula Racing competition in Germany is considered to be the most competitive of the Formula SAE student series. Cars in these events are judged on fuel efficiency, endurance, project management planning, design, and other areas. Students on the team get experience and learn skills such as aerodynamics, chassis construction, mechanical engineering, fund raising, and project management.

This is the third consecutive year that the Global Racing Team has won the Austrian competition, and the second consecutive year the team has won a national championship.
