OSU Welcomes New Students Through START Program

OSU provides START sessions throughout the summer as a registration and orientation program for new students. This week marks the beginning of the first START session! This two day program provides new students the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor, register for fall term classes, attend workshops on a variety of topics, meet current students and staff, and learn about campus resources. Throughout the summer there will be nine First Year START sessions and four Transfer START sessions. For a list of dates or to register for the START program click here.

This summer orientation program aids in the transition process of OSU’s new students. A parent/family orientation program runs concurrently. So if you are a new student make sure you have registered for a START session, and for all those students already at OSU make sure to help welcome the newbies to campus!

Today is the first campus START session to advise and register our eager Beavers for the incoming fall 2011 class. Many OSU staff and advisers have been on the road assisting our new students in places like Anchorage, Alaska, the Bay area of California and Honolulu, Hawaii.

On behalf of us that had the pleasure of working the Hawaii START program, mahalo nui loa to Punahou School and its staff for hosting our program, assisting on site in the labs and meeting rooms, and to all the great OSU alumni, OSU parents and current OSU students from Hawaii who took their Saturday to help us get 78 students one step closer to their college dream.

START BilingÃ¼e a Huge Success…Again!

START BilingÃ¼e, a collaborative program led by OSU’s New Student Programs and Family Outreach office, was held on June 29th and 30th. BilingÃ¼e served over eighty students and family members this year.

The primary focus of the BilingÃ¼e program is to provide OSU information in Spanish to Spanish speaking families so that they can better support their student through the journey to college. The BilingÃ¼e program mirrors the parent program that is offered in English during every START session. Two of our Admissions folks, Lizbeth Campos and Alicia Ortega, were able to take a camera along to document some of the BilingÃ¼e experience.
