My name is Kaleena Tuffo. Â I graduated from Oregon State University in 2009 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Natural Resources. Â I have recently joined the OSU Admissions staff as an Admissions Advisor. Â I travel to various areas such as; the Oregon Coast, Arizona and Eastern Washington to talk to students about all of the opportunities available at OSU!

During my undergraduate career I had many amazing experiences both inside and outside the classroom. I had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding in the field of Sociology through undergraduate research and an internship with a non-profit in California. While I was at OSU I also planned the Alternative Spring Break Program for the Community Service Center. This program takes a group of OSU students to another community to do a week of service during Spring Break.  These experiences gave me the chance to gain practical work experience, to grow as a person and to meet some amazing people.

I am very excited to now be working in Admissions at OSU. I have been traveling for the last two weeks talking to prospective students about OSU. This week I have been traveling around Eastern Oregon. There are a lot of exciting things happening at OSU, and I am thrilled about the opportunity to share them with all of you! Go Beavs!

Oregon State (50)

In an accompanying article, Berenise Delgado, a valedictorian from Roosevelt High School in Portland, talks of her dream to attend OSU to be an engineer but the challenges of affording that dream. Oregon State’s ‘Bridge to Success‘ program is designed for those in state students who struggle with college costs.

From the article:

If she has to, she says, she’ll try to take out loans. “Whatever it takes, I’m going to college.”

Late last week, Delgado learned that she’s been awarded a series of grants and scholarships that will allow her to attend Oregon State and even cover the cost of books.

“I’m ready,” she says after looking over the paperwork.

The vibe: As small towns go, you don’t get much greener than Corvallis. This Willamette Valley town happily took up the Corvallis Energy Challenge, where residents strive to use the lowest amount of energy in their homes. With two LEED-certified buildings and more on the way, OSU is listed by the Kaplan College Guide as one of the nation’s top green universities. Every downtown block seems to have at least one eco-friendly business. According to resident Collin Dunn, blogger for pioneering green website treehugger.com, Corvallis is the perfect place for those “who want to live in tune with the seasons and natural rhythms of the planet.” –Allison Arieff
