Along with Javier Cervantes, our very own Lizbeth Campos presided over the event and assisted with the ceremony. Watch the videos for footage of the new graduates, including Omán Meza and Mirella Pérez – they reflect on why they chose to go to college and ultimately to OSU and what’s in store for their future. Congratulations Class of 2008!

Este sábado pasado, 14 de junio 2008, La Universidad Estatal de Oregon celebro su VI anual ceremonia de graduación “Si Se Pudo�. Esta celebración honra estudiantes Latinos que han completado con sus estudios en la universidad. Javier Cervantes y Lizbeth Campos presidieron sobre la ceremonia. Para ver las secuencias de video de los graduados, incluyendo Omán Meza y Mirella Pérez donde hablan sobre porque escogieron ir al colegio y porque escogieron ir a OSU. Omar y Mireya también comparten que harán en sus futuros. Felicidades Clase de 2008!

Last Friday and Saturday high school students from all four corners of Oregon converged on campus for a program called Kaleidoscope of Colleges and Cultures (KCC). The program is aimed primarily at underrepresented minorities and first generation students.

Students got to hear an uplifting keynote address by Javier Cervantes, attend Roadmap to College sessions, learn about exciting academic opportunities, meet faculty members from the OSU campus, see a talent show starring OSU and Corvallis area performance groups (DIME Squad, Allison Davis-White Eyes, Omega Delta Phi, Gamma Alpha Omega and Rumbanana) and take tours of the campus and housing.

Counselors were able to sit in on a session with Director of Admissions, Michele Sandlin. The topics centered on OSU’s Holistic Admissions policy and the new Bridge to Success Program.

The annual event brings OSU into Latino communities with purposes of outreach, university access, exposure and promotion of higher education. Javier Cervantes, Director of the CASA Latina/o de OSU, led OSU faculty, staff and current OSU students all from various departments and clubs at the event which was held at Forest Grove High School. Prospective students and family members were able to ask questions regarding admissions, financial aid, scholarships, housing, resources and other topics.
