Many OSU staff and advisers have been on the road assisting our new students in places like Anchorage, Alaska, the Bay area of California and Honolulu, Hawaii.

On behalf of us that had the pleasure of working the Hawaii START program, mahalo nui loa to Punahou School and its staff for hosting our program, assisting on site in the labs and meeting rooms, and to all the great OSU alumni, OSU parents and current OSU students from Hawaii who took their Saturday to help us get 78 students one step closer to their college dream.

Whether you are a senior trying to decide which college to attend or a junior just starting the college selection process, the Spring Visit program is a great way to learn more about Oregon State University.  There four program dates : Monday, February 21st, 2011, Friday, March 25th, 2011, Friday, April 1st, 2011 and Friday, April 8th, 2011.  Select one of our Spring Visits and spend an afternoon meeting with representatives from key academic and administrative areas. You’ll also have a chance to tour the campus and talk to OSU students about why they chose to be part of Beaver Nation.

My name is Kourtney Goya and I have recently joined the OSU Admissions Office as an Admissions Advisor. I graduated from OSU in June with a History degree and a minor in French. I travel and recruit students from Alaska, Colorado, and Lane County, Oregon.

I have previously written for the Admissions Blog as an undergraduate student.  I have made a short video asking the OSU Community what their favorite thing about the university was, as well as highlighted the annual lu’au hosted by Hui-O-Hawaii (Hawaii Club).  In addition to being an active member of Hui-O-Hawaii, I also worked with prospective students as a TOUR Coordinator and with current students through other on-campus clubs and organizations. I am grateful for the many opportunities Oregon State provides for their students to get involved.

As an Admissions Advisor, I am excited to share how amazing Oregon State University is and some of the experiences I had as a student. In the last three weeks I have traveled through Alaska and Colorado talking with prospective students. I enjoy working with future Beavers (as well as current Beaver Believers) and look forward to the rest of the year!

Saturday May 22 is a day for Beavers to get together and get busy helping. Alumni, students and friends of OSU will work together in more than a dozen cities during the annual OSUAA day of service.

Beaver alumni will be helping out in 13 cities around the U.S. including Boise (painting at the Boys & Girls Club), Honolulu (removal of invasive species at Sand Island), New York City, San Francisco (park clean up at Golden Gate Park), Seattle (wetland restoration in Magnuson Park) and Portland (painting park benches in the Park Blocks). So if you see them out in their ‘Powered By Orange’ shirts, honk, wave or say, “Thanks”.

KCC is the third community college in Hawai’i to sign a DPP agreement with OSU.

A lot can happen when you give current OSU student Kourtney Goya a video camera and tell her “go shoot some stuff.” The Office of Admissions did just that, allowing her to ask some people around campus about their favorite thing about OSU. Hi! My name is Kourtney Goya and I am one of the TOUR Coordinators in the Office of Admissions. I am currently a senior majoring in History and also working on a French minor. You may remember me from a previous blog post last year about the annual Hui O Hawaii Lu’au (which is on April 25th this year so mark your calendars!).

Last Friday I walked around campus asking students, faculty, and staff about their favorite thing at Oregon State University. There was a variety of answers and I hope you enjoy watching the video!

The Honolulu Advertiser has a listing of the dozens of students from the Great State of Hawaii who will graduate from OSU next weekend.

From the Honolulu Advertiser:

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2008 graduating class from Oregon State University is one of the largest in the school’s history and includes dozens of students from Hawaii, according to a news release from the school.

OSU’s 139th commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 15, in Reser Stadium beginning at 1 p.m. and broadcast live on Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Congrats to our soon to be alumni from Hawaii and to all of our graduates!
