On Tuesday, February 5th, students in Oregon State’s School of Design and Human Environment turned their designing dreams into reality in a planet friendly way while participating in the Oregon State Fashion Organization’s Recycled Fashion Show entitled “Runway Rubbish.”

This event gave participants the chance to use their creativity to construct clothing made 100% out of recyclable materials.  OSU’s Recycle Fashion Show is part of a competition between various universities through RecycleMania that encourages students to advocate for a waste-free community.

The influential blog and web site Fashionista has named Oregon State University one of the top 20 best fashion programs in the US! We’re up there with FIT, Parsons, Pratt, SCAD, and RISD!! And remember, tuition at Parsons is $38,000/year; tuition at RISD is $39,000/year; tuition at OSU is $7,700 (OR resident) and $21,450 (non-resident).

Filed under the ‘Things You Never Knew About Oregon State’….a great video that highlights the stress and success of students in OSU’s Apparel Design program. The Department of Human Environment is the only department west of the Rockies that offers bachelors’ through PhD programs in apparel design, interior design, housing studies and merchandising management.

Their first event was in downtown Portland last week to show some veteran pieces from OSU’s Recycled Fashion Show that is held in the spring here on campus.

Surprised? Don’t be. OSU has an amazing apparel design program to go along with an interior design/housing studies program as well. There is more to this research university than just science and engineering!
