The First Lady Michelle Obama received a honorary doctorate in public health for all of her efforts in improving the health of children in the United States. She began by praising OSU for the positive impact is has on the state of Oregon.

You have built one of the most sustainable campuses in America, conducting groundbreaking research from technology to childhood obesity, you are serving others in so many ways

She gave the class of 2012 a 3 things to take away from here speech. “focus on what you have not what your missing, lead a rich life and that is to define success on your own terms, and don’t leave behind any unfinished business with the people you love.”

Good morning, faithful readers!

First of all, the entire OSU Admissions Office would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all Veterans, especially our OSU students, faculty and staff who served. Thanks so much for all you do!

Veterans Day also happens to be one of our busiest regular visit days of the year as students have the day off from school. If you are coming down for a visit, we can’t wait to meet you! Just to show you how busy we are going to be today, check out this picture of our Visitor Center Cool Board:

The cool board is a Visitor Center tradition that dates back to before my time as a TOUR student. Which was, *ahem* some time ago. We always post the names of our student visitors on the Cool Board as a first welcome to our campus. As you can see, our Veterans Day crowd completely filled up the Cool Board. So, we used our overflow cool space, otherwise known as our life sized cutout of men’s basketball coach Craig Robinson.

If you weren’t able to make it down for a visit today, please check out our Visit OSU homepage and set up a personalized visit!

Great article today from the El Paso Times about tonight’s CBI match up between the Beavers and UTEP Miners. The UTEP players and coaches came away with a very favorable impression of Gill Coliseum, comparing it to Duke’s Cameron Indoor:

UTEP and Oregon State, finalists in this second annual College Basketball Invitational best-of-three championship series, will go at it in Game 2 on Wednesday night in the Don Haskins Center. Oregon State took Game 1, 75-69, in the great atmosphere at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore.

“Seemed like Cameron Indoor (at Duke) or something,” UTEP sophomore Gabe McCulley said of the 8,029 fans in Gill. “It was a great atmosphere. Everybody was jumping up and down and you couldn’t hear anything.”

A group from the Admissions Office made it to Gill Monday night and we all agreed that this is the loudest we have heard Gill in a long, long time. Admittedly, the OSU basketball program has struggled over the last decade or so and this has greatly affected the game day atmosphere at Legendary Gill Coliseum. I think you’d have to admit that the echoes have re-awoken at Gill!

A gentleman who was sitting in front of my colleague, Danté Holloway and I turned around and exclaimed “you guys don’t understand! It used to be like this every night!!

Here’s a picture from right after the game ended courtesy of Alicia Ortega:

GO BEAVERS!

There are some more great shots of the game at oregonlive.com.

You can catch the game tonight on HD Net (if you happen to have it). Or, you can follow the call of five time Oregon Sportscaster of the Year, Mike Parker on KPAM 860 online anywhere in the world.

It has been so great to witness this basketball rebirth on campus. Here’s to many more years of success under Coach Robinson!

Hey everyone. I just got word that NBC Nightly News Anchor Brian Williams, who mistook OSU Men’s Basketball Coach Craig Robinson for the personal assistant to President Obama, Reggie Love, during the presidential inauguration on Tuesday, emailed an apology to the Oregonian and The Daily Barometer for the error. Here’s a copy of the email, which can be found on the Oregonian and Barometer websites:

To the Oregon State Community,

My sincere apology. Whatever you have called me over the past few days can’t be any worse than my own anger over my mistake. I made an inexcusable error when I confused the great OSU coach Craig Robinson with a friend of mine, the personal assistant to President Obama, Reggie Love. I am sending personal apologies to both men, and this is my apology to all members of Beaver Nation. It was a mistake committed during 9 hours of live programming – I was distracted and watching many incoming video feeds, but that’s no excuse for the error, which was no one’s fault but mine. I have felt awful about it since I forced myself to read the coverage of it on OregonLive.com, and I hope that someday you can find it in your hearts to forgive my error.

Respectfully,
Brian Williams
Anchor and Managing Editor

Apology accepted, B-Dub. Still waiting for you, Mr. Brokaw.

I heard this on NPR on the way home last night (podcast at the site). I think it really encompasses the crazy swirl of media that surrounds the program right now. We certainly hope it doesn’t distract from the rebuilding of the program. By the sounds of this interview, Coach Rob has his focus and that of his team on the right things.

Good luck, Coach Rob and the Beavers!
GO BEAVS!
