Oregon State athletics has been pretty busy this spring. The wrestling team just finished their season over the weekend at the NCAA Championships in Iowa. The Beavers brought back three All-Americans; Taylor Meeks (4th), Scott Sakaguchi (5th), and RJ Pena (5th). All three return next year. The team placed 8th overall, their best finish since 1996.

While the wrestling team was in Iowa, the Women’s gymnastics team competed in the Pac-12 championships here in Corvallis. At the end of the weekend the team title stayed in Corvallis, this was the team’s second Pac -12 title in three years. The 10th ranked Beavers now prepare for the NCAA regional championship next month.

On the diamond, the baseball team is off to another hot start. They are ranked 3rd in the nation and have a 21-2 record. Not to be out done by the baseball team, the softball team is ranked 23rd and has a 23-6 record as they prepare to open up Pac-12 play. It’s an exciting time to be a Beaver fan.

Let’s go Beavers!

If you’ve walked around campus lately, you have probably noticed that there’s a lot of construction going on. There are currently 12 construction projects, including the addition of 3 new buildings. Here is an update of current and upcoming projects:

Linus Pauling Center

The Linus Pauling Center is located at the corner f 30th Street and Campus Way and will house the Linus Pauling Institute and the Department of Chemistry. It is scheduled to be completed this summer.

INTO-OSU’s Living Learning Center will be the 14th residence hall on campus. The residence hall will serve as the new home for 350 international and domestic students, as well as additional offices, classrooms, a coffee shop, and a convenience store. This new residence hall is located on the south end of campus off of Western Boulevard. INTO-OSU Living Learning Center is scheduled to be completed by the start of the new school year.

University Housing and Dining Services has also announced that they have started the process in adding another residence hall to the east end of campus, on the corner of 13th and Adams Ave. The new hall will serve as a multipurpose facility, house about 250 students, and is anticipated to reach the equivalent of a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Silver rating of sustainability.

Rendering of the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families

Located on the corner of 26th and Campus Way, the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families will be part of the College of Health and Human Sciences and will support research and outreach programs “focused on the human lifespan, with a special emphasis on the physical, mental, and behavior health of children.” The new Center is scheduled to be completed this summer.

Outdoor Recreation Complex

OSU is building a new Outdoor Recreation Complex which will include 2 synthetic turf fields with lighting for night use, new outdoor tennis courts, a plaza area with restrooms and a storage shelter, a running path, and an open area for recreational park use.

McAlexander Fieldhouse is also undergoing an interior renovation. The indoor turf field and courts will be redone with an improved surface area, a new climbing wall and skills-building course will be added, along with a check-in desk, classroom, workroom-office, storage, custodial spaces, and general improvements to better manage the use of space. Both projects are scheduled to be completed in the fall.

What’s really cool about the majority of these projects is that you can view them either live or with a time lapse via webcam by clicking here.

In addition to these major projects, there are numerous renovations happening around campus. Nash Hall and Education Hall are receiving seismic upgrades and the continuing expansion of Goss Stadium is an example of Oregon State’s growth.

Please feel free to visit campus and check out all the new and exciting improvements!
