High school students from the Salem-Keizer School District were in attendance and heard from speakers, attended a variety of workshops and got to enjoy special entertainment during lunch from members of OSU’s African American Greek Life organizations. The theme of the conference was P.R.I.D.E.: Proud Responsible Individuals Dedicated to Excellence (Connect with Your Future: Dream, Focus, Plan, and Achieve Your Goals)

11th Annual African American Youth Leadership Conference

The goals of this conference are to promote positive youth development in African/African American youth and multicultural youth of African descent by:

  • Raising awareness on how to achieve personal goals
  • Emphasizing the value of education
  • Empowering future leadership (responsibility)
  • Establishing a sense of community
  •  Increasing personal self-esteem and affirm cultural awareness

The goals of the conference were:

To promote positive yourth development in African/African American youth and multicultural youth of African descent by:

-Raising awareness on how to achieve personal goals
-Emphasizing the value of education
-Empowering future leadership (responsibility)
-Establishing a sense of community
-Increasing personal self-esteem and affirm cultural awareness

The conference was targeted at middle and high school students.
