Engineering students at OSU had the opportunity to showcase a lot of the projects and research that goes on in our College of Engineering last Friday. There were more than 100 student built programs and each specialization was proudly represented. This event was open to the public and free. Along with the showcase of projects, a Robo*Palooza was also held during the expo and featured the award winning Mars rover robot and FIRST robots from local high schools. Tours of the O.H Hinsdale Wave Lab were also available to the public. Last year a boat made out of concrete was presented, it was build and raced by OSU engineering students. Also the formula 1 racing team was out talking to people about the research put into the car and team.

This is an annual event, if you missed it this year and are wanting to learn more about the College of Engineering I have included a link below. We offer a tour daily at 2pm M-F that focuses just on the many research opportunities that the College of Engineering has to offer students, if you are interested the 2nd link below will take you to our visit OSU page.

OSU has been committed to be active stewards of the planet through sustainable practices for countless years. One such practice happens right here in the Office of Admissions by printing materials in an environmentally responsible fashion. For several years, the Office of Admissions has been printing materials on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved methods with the paper product coming from 30% recycled materials. By using these types of printing methods our office could actually be helping to maintain the forests.

The next time you receive admissions information on paper, just look for the FSC seal of approval and know OSU is dedicated to environmental effects.

Once again, congratulations to all of the newly admitted studentsout there! We are very excited to have you join the Beaver Nation this upcoming Fall 2013! This is just a friendly reminder that if you haven’t already, to confirm your intent to enroll at Oregon State University and then sign up for your incoming student orientation that we call START.

If you haven’t already, you will want to confirm your intent to enroll by paying your $200 Advance Tuition Deposit (ATD). You must pay this before registering for a START program. Depositing your ATD online is the easiest and fastest way to submit the funds. Go to http://infosu.oregonstate.edu/login and enter your student ID and General Access Pin (GAP). Once you’ve accessed the system, click Admissions then Pay Advance Tuition Deposit and follow the instructions. As of May 1, 2012 your deposit is non-refundable.

After you have completed this, you may now register for your START orientation. START is Oregon State’s new student orientation, advising and registration program for incoming students. START is the first of three steps to making a successful transition into the OSU community. Each START program provides students and their family members with the opportunity to connect with campus resources, meet with an academic advisor, and register for Fall term courses.

Some of you might be thinking though, “What if mysummer schedule is really packed?” Well, we offer several dates throughout the summer for both First Year and Transfer Students to attend. We also offer START on the Road programs in California, Alaska and Hawaii for students who cannot attend the START programs provided on campus. Also, if you cannot attend any of these dates, you can attend START @ CONNECT on September 19th, 2012 on campus.

To learn more about START and to find the program date and location that would work best for you, visit our website at: http://oregonstate.edu/newstudents/start/home .

Registration for START began May 1st for students who have paid their Advanced Tuition Deposit (ATD). To register visit: http://oregonstate.edu/newstudents .

On May 6th, OSU’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association won its first National Championship in the organization’s history. After having been ranked in the 10 ten competing universities for the last 7 years, the team was finally able to make their way to the top. They were the only team that had rides place within the top 10 in every class.

It has been an especially long journey to this point for Whitman, who has been a member of IHSA since her freshman year at OSU. For the last four years, she has traveled to nationals with the team; each year, Whitman and her teammates had dealt with the cliché “close but no cigar” scenario. But not anymore.
“When I realized that I was in the arena, and there was only one team that could catch us and their rider placed under me, I thought I was going to cry, or puke. It was honestly very surreal.” Whitman said.

Congrats to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association on their victory, your hard work has paid off!

OSU’s Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Health Physics is a rapidly growing program and was the first in the nation to offer a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering. Today, it is on of the top programs in the nation. With the program’s newly accredited graduate medical physics program, OSU is one of only 26 universities and the only in the Northwest with an accredited medical physics program.

Hui O Hawaii and the Polynesian Culture Club hosted the 57th annual lu‘au this past Saturday, May 5th. The lu‘au is the main event the clubs put on every year, entertaining 800-1000 guests from across the nation. A traditional Hawaiian dinner was served along with a student organized show consisting of the different types of hula, along with Samoan and Tongan dances, followed by a concert performed by a popular band from Hawai’i.

The lu‘au is a popular tradition here at OSU. It is a family fun event and allows people to experience the Polynesian culture. I definitely recommend coming down and experiencing the lu‘au for yourself!

Congratulations to those students who have been admitted to Oregon State University!

To confirm your intent to enroll at Oregon State University, you must submit the Advanced Tuition Deposit (ATD) form along with your $200 deposit. This applies to all fall, winter, spring, and summer students.

This allows us to create your student account and make plans for your arrival. When you arrive on campus prior to the start of classes, your $200 deposit will be applied to your tuition or any account balance you may have.

Remember (Fall Term Students Only): Payment of your ATD is required to participate in the START program, which allows you to register for Fall term courses. As of May 1, 2012 your deposit is non-refundable.
If you haven’t submitted your ATD form and $200 deposit then check out the steps below to find out how to do so.

Here are some quick and easy steps on how to pay your Advanced Tuition Deposit:
1. Go to http://infosu.oregonstate.edu/login.
2. Use your ONID credentials to access the system. If you do not yet have an ONID ID, you can use your student ID (on the letter of admission) and your GAP number (your birth date).
3. Once you’ve accessed the system, click ‘Admissions’, then click ‘Advanced Tuition Deposit’.
4. You will be provided with instructions on how complete the ATD form and pay the deposit.

We are very excited to have you join the Beaver Nation this upcoming Fall 2013! Now the next steps are for you to confirm your intent to enroll at Oregon State University and then sign up for your incoming student orientation that we call START.

Registration for START begins May 1st for students who have paid their Advanced Tuition Deposit (ATD). To register visit: http://oregonstate.edu/newstudents .
