Applying not only reserves your spot to live on campus but it also allows you to rank your preferred Residence Halls. It also allows you to create a Roommate Matching Network profile. The Roommate Matching Network is a neat tool students can use to find a roommate. Its kind of like eHarmony meets Facebook, it allows the student to create a profile and answer a few questions about themselves and then determine how compatible they are with a potential roommate.

We also give students the opportunity to choose exactly which room you will be living in.

So, if you haven’t already, apply for housing!

Important dates:

• May 20, 2013: New OSU students in academic groups (University Honors College, Engineering, and the Austin Entrepreneurship Program) may select rooms
• May 28 – June 2, 2013: New OSU students who completed a housing app before February 1, 2013 may select rooms
• June 5 – June 17, 2013 at 5 PM: New OSU students with completed housing applications may select rooms
• July 1, 2013: Assignment notifications available on MyUHDS for new students (dependent on space availability and application date)

Recently, an article was published by the Wine Spectator showcasing Oregon State’s efforts to recycle pomace; or what is leftover after grapes are harvested and pressed for wine. Yanyun Zhao, a professor here at OSU, is working to transform this waste into baking flour and other sustainable products.  This substitute, both healthy and earth conscience, is just one example of the new developments that are being discovered here in Beaver Nation.  As one of only two schools in the United States that have all four designated grants for land, sea, sun and space; Oregon State University continues to be a top tier research institute allowing students to not just sit in a classroom but be active in their field of study.

“How will my course transfer to OSU?”  This is one of the top questions we receive when working with transfer or concurrent credit high school students and those who have taken advance credits interested in Oregon State University.  For those students who have wondered how courses transfer, but haven’t found the answers yet, you’re in luck!  Keep reading.

OSU has multiple ways to find out quickly if courses taken at a community college, college or university are transferable.  For information on courses from Oregon and Hawaii community colleges that transfer to OSU as baccalaureate core credit (courses that meet general education requirements) please click here to take you to the Baccalaureate Core Course Equivalencies page.  To find information on courses from Oregon colleges and universities that are accepted in transfer, click here.

Haven’t taken any course in the state of Oregon?  There’s a useful method for students coming from a community college, college or university outside the state of Oregon too.  Students can create a worksheet for their educational planning and check individual courses by using the Single Course Search tool.  Please note that not all courses from all community colleges, colleges or universities have been reviewed. Courses not on the list will be reviewed upon your application and acceptance to the university.

For those students taking advance classes such as; Advance Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), General Certificate Education (GCE) or Military credit click here to see how they are credited.  Please be aware that the scores must come directly from the testing agency in order to be accepted.

The above information and links are meant to serve as tools to educate on transferable courses and are completely unofficial.  In order to receive an official articulation, students must first apply and gain admission to OSU, submit the advance tuition deposit (ATD) and register for an orientation session (START).  Advanced standing credit is applied to a student’s record after the student has been admitted to the university and official transcripts or score reports have been received by the Office of Admissions. Please allow 2-4 weeks for credit to be evaluated and appear as part of a students record.

I bet a lot of students are celebrating the ending of their school year by relaxing, working a summer job, hanging out with friends or just enjoying their free time.  Some students are looking back at the completion of their sophomore or junior year and might not even be thinking about the next big step; going to college.  Here is a little secret from me to prospective students…summer is a wonderful time to visit Oregon State University!

Our Campus Visitor Center is open during the week and excited to welcome interested students and their families to explore our beautiful campus and programs.  The Campus Visitor Center is open Monday through Friday with current OSU students leading tours at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm with the last tour departing at 3pm.  On top of the campus tour, visiting prospective students can take advantage of a housing tour, specific college tours, meet with University Honors College and if available an appointment with an Academic Advisor and Admissions Representative.

Outside West Residence and Dining Hall

As your high school journey ends with graduation we are looking forward to those students attending Oregon State University this coming fall!  The Office of Admissions would like to give you a few friendly reminders prior to summer.  Before you leave your high school make sure to request your final official transcript to OSU.  Another reminder is to double check and confirm that you have sent your SAT or ACT scores to our office.  Also, if you have taken any AP or IB (International Baccalaureate) exams you can request those scores sent our way too. 

To summarize, ask yourself these questions if you are attending OSU this fall:
Q) Have I requested my official transcripts to OSU?
A) If you said no to this question, ask your school to send your official transcript.

Q) I took the SAT and/or the ACT but did I send those test scores to OSU?
A) If you haven’t, click here to request your SAT scores and here for the ACT exam.

Q) Did I take any AP or IB exams?
A) If so, click here for AP and here for IB and request the scores to our office.

Q) I can’t remember what I’ve sent to OSU.
