A More Affordable On-Campus Housing Option

Still deciding where to live next year? Given the growing need for more affordable on-campus housing, UHDS has increased the popular triple room options for the 2013-14 academic year.
More triple rooms will be available in Buxton, Cauthorn, Hawley, Poling, Sackett, Wilson (4th floor) and Weatherford halls, as well as triples and quadruple rooms in McNary hall.

Moms & Family Weekend 2013

May 3rd, 4th and 5th mark this year’s annual Moms and Family Weekend at Oregon State University! This is a great opportunity for moms and family of any kind to join their students in participating in a fun-filled weekend of events and activities on campus including access to the Dixon Recreation Center, attending the OSU Baseball game against UC Berkley, a Zumba party and the Moms Weekend Fashion Show.

Are you an admitted student and thinking about attending Oregon State in the Fall?

If yes, applying for housing should be on your list of things to do! Once a student has been admitted they can begin the process of applying for housing here: http://oregonstate.edu/uhds/apply-now .

Applying not only reserves your spot to live on campus but it also allows you to rank your preferred Residence Halls. It also allows you to create a Roommate Matching Network profile. The Roommate Matching Network is a neat tool students can use to find a roommate. Its kind of like eHarmony meets Facebook, it allows the student to create a profile and answer a few questions about themselves and then determine how compatible they are with a potential roommate.

We also give students the opportunity to choose exactly which room you will be living in.

So, if you haven’t already, apply for housing!

Important dates:

May 20, 2013: New OSU students in academic groups (University Honors College, Engineering, and the Austin Entrepreneurship Program) may select rooms
May 28 – June 2, 2013: New OSU students who completed a housing app before February 1, 2013 may select rooms
June 5 – June 17, 2013 at 5 PM: New OSU students with completed housing applications may select rooms
July 1, 2013: Assignment notifications available on MyUHDS for new students (dependent on space availability and application date)

Si Se Puede

OSU will be hosting the Si Se Puede event at McKay High School on April 8th, 5:30-8:00pm! This event is a great opportunity for Latino students and their families to meet OSU faculty, staff and students to help in planning and preparing for college. The program will be primarily in Spanish with English translation available. Here are a few highlights of the program:

Resource fair before and after the program including representatives from various student clubs, the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), the College of Pharmacy, College of Business and College of Liberal Arts
Topics covered: admissions, financial aid, housing, College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) and Student Support Services (SSS)
OSU student panel
Stories from the parents of current students
Free child care and food will be provided

Si Se Puede

This is a free event and no pre-registration is required. Si Se Puede is open to high school students 9-12 grade. There will be something for everyone including taking a picture with our life-size Benny the Beaver cut-out! We hope to see you there. For questions, please contact:

Gov. Kitzhaber signs Oregon Tuition Equity Bill (HB 2787) into law. Oregon State prepared to process students for fall term 2013.

With the passage of HB 2787, the Office of Admissions is prepared to assist and process students that believe they qualify for in-state tuition under this bill. We encourage interested students, parents and high school counselors to visit http://oregonstate.edu/admissions/tuition-equity to learn more about what steps they can take for consideration for fall term 2013 at Oregon State.

Governor John Kitzhaber: “The passage of tuition equity is great news for Oregon. Young people who work hard in our schools deserve equal access to post-secondary education, and House Bill 2787 opens up that opportunity to them. This will help our state capitalize on the investment we’ve made in these students through the K-12 system while giving them their shot at the American dream. Thursday, the Oregon Senate voted to pass HB 2787 (known as the Tuition Equity bill). In anticipation of the eventual passage of Oregon House Bill 2787, we have been meeting to iron out the processing implications of this new and exciting legislation. As soon as Governor Kitzhaber signs the bill into law (which is expected), we will post to this blog and to our web site specific instructions on how impacted students can proceed.

OSU Spring Visits are a great opportunity to learn the basics about Oregon State University. The Advance Tuition Deposit

What is the Advance Tuition Deposit, and how do I pay it? is very common question we receive this time of year. Think of the Advance Tuition Deposit, as a down payment on your fall tuition, it is NOT an additional fee. The deposit is applied to your student account once it is paid and will go towards paying your tuition and fees once those have accrued for your fall term. The ATD helps us as a university get a count for students who will be joining us this fall. We can prepare classes, orientation, and other many great activities you will get to participate in once you come to OSU.

May 1st is the national commitment deadline, until May 1st the ATD is refundable. The benefit of paying your ATD by May 1st is you will then be allowed to register for a START program. START is where students will be able to register for their fall term classes, meet with their academic advisor, and many other events to help get them settled before the fall term. There are several START sessions throughout the summer and below is a link with more information and dates.

Attention Techmen, Generals, Rough Riders, Beavers and Warriors! Ready to apply to OSU? OSU Admissions will be at your high school in a few weeks as part of our @BeaverVIP Program. This is an on-the-spot admit program where qualified students will have the opportunity to meet with one of our admissions representatives and receive their admissions decision right then and there!
