Civil War – Not just on the Football Field

November 25th, 2013

This week is the 117th Civil War in Oregon. Oregon State will be playing at Oregon’s Autzen Stadium at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 29th. However, in the weeks leading up to the Civil War, Oregon and Oregon State go head to head in other areas of campus life.

Every year, OSU and UO compete in a Civil War Blood Drive, seeing which campus can donate the most blood and Recycle Mania, in which the Beavers and Ducks compete nationally against other campuses and against each other to see who can recycle and compost the most pounds per person. This year was also the 5th annual Energy Civil War. Each campus competed in producing clean renewable energy from exercise! Only 30 minutes on one of the 10 ReRev ellipticals produced 100 watts of energy for the campus.

Not everything between Oregon State and Oregon is a competition, the A Cappella Civil War was less of a showdown and more of a showcase of talent. OSU’s  a cappella groups, Divine and Outspoken, performed alongside UO’s Divisi and On the Rocks.

Whether you are football fan or a fan of the environment, there is always a way to get into the spirit of the Civil War. And as always….go beavs!
