Rally in Pioneer Courthouse Square to Denounce Violence

On Sunday, Muslim students from Oregon State University and other supports gathered in Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland to denounce violence.  Mohamed Kassim, a senior at OSU stated that some misconceptions about the Muslim community needed to be clarified.  About 150 people gathered in the square to listen to Muslim, Christian and Jewish speakers call for peace and understanding.  Marion Dawan, a board member of the Islamic Social Services at OSU, attended the event to get a sense of the community’s feelings.  Several religious leaders in the Corvallis community say they have embraced each other’s faiths in order to show their unity and to honor the diverse community.
