First of all, OSU offers very generous scholarship programs specifically restricted to out of state students. In fact, the vast majority of students from out of state who are admitted with a 3.0 or higher receive some sort of scholarship.

Second, remember that OSU is a state funded, Land Grant institution. The first mission of a Land Grant school is to take care of our in state students. I feel very safe in saying that whatever state you are coming from has public universities at rates greatly reduced from out of state rates.

The reason out of state rates are so much higher is that in-state students’ parents have been paying taxes that support a subsidy of the actual cost of attendance…Which is what out of state students pay.

We value the perspective that out of state students bring to campus, we LOVE having them here. As I mentioned before, we provide special scholarship programs for them. You just have to remember that there are many missions being carried out at a Land Grant institution, chiefly, to provide equal access for education for our residents.
