Campus safety discussion one year after Virginia Tech

In honor of the one year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech, Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) did a segment on campus safety. Jackie Balzer, dean of Student Life at OSU, was a guest on the segment to discuss how OSU is prepared to respond to safety issues.

Update 4/18/2008:
OSU has taken another step to implementing a text message emergency system.

    I just returned from a conference in D.C. on electronic security services. One presentation from a rep of the DoE stressed the need for universities to incorporate effective emergency communication measures. It’s good to know OSU is focused on this.

    It’s sad students need to even consider such possibilities. Who would have thought schools would need have to have “sniper drills” and “emergency communication measures.” I guess it’s just an unfortunate reality.
