Sen. Margaret Carter honored
Posted October 29th, 2007 by BlakeOSU alumnae Senator Margaret Carter was honored by Portland Community College last week. From the press release:
The Skill Center will now be called the Margaret Carter Skill Center. The program takes a hands-on approach to learning and applied skill training. Programs include classes in life-skill education, technology and computer literacy, employment exploration concepts and applied office techniques, communications and trades math.
Senator Carter received her Masters degree from Oregon State University.
First elected to the Oregon House in 1984, Margaret Carter is the first African American woman elected to the Legislative Assembly. In 2000, Ms. Carter was elected to her first term in the Oregon Senate, and in January 2005 as Senate President Pro Tempore.
