Admission application to be more inclusive to LGBT students

Posted March 17th, 2006 by Blake

The OSU Admissions office has been talking with the LGBT Services Office about modifying the current gender choices offered on our admission applications. The discussion revolved around the implication given to LGBT students that while they may identify as something other than male or female, they may feel forced into selecting a category that didn’t apply to their situation. As of Fall 2006 in both paper and online applications, another check box will allow students to identify another choice in addition to the existing male and female choices. We feel this is a step in the right direction.

In addition, the customer service representatives in the Admissions office have been through Safe Space Training in an effort to provide more safe and comfortable campus locations for LGBT students.

An article on the application changes appeared in the Barometer.
