The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards handles complaints against Oregon State University students and student groups but not faculty or staff.
The complaint must indicate a possible violation of one of the regulations covered by Student Conduct Regulations.
The staff of the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards is available to explain procedures and talk to you about your concerns around reporting an incident or situation. The Student Conduct review process is very different than the civil or criminal justice system.
Except when the possible violation poses a danger to another student, faculty member, or the OSU community, the process is educational and developmental in nature. Punative measures are used when necessary in the process.
Additionally, if upon review of the complaint it is determined that no conduct violation has occurred then conduct staff may advise you of other resolution options such as mediation.
Once a complaint is filed and conduct staff has determined that a violation of student conduct regulations may have occured, the matter becomes a case between the University and the student. The complainant or reporting person becomes a witness to the misconduct. If the case is processed by an informal administrative hearing, the witness may submit written statements. In the case of a formal hearing before the Student Conduct Committee
the witness may be requested to appear.
Complaints, whether on a reporting form, an e-mail, notes from a telephone call complaint intake or any other printed format become part of the accused student's record and may be made accessible to the student for the purposes of preparing a response.
