Focus Area 4: Build confidence and self-worth
What You Say Counts!
As a supervisor, you have tremendous power and leverage in what you say. What you say and how you say it can impact employees in ways you may not even see.
A Model for Using "I" Statements

Employees who feel confident in themselves and have a sense of a high self esteem not only feel better about themselves, but often produce much more than those who lack confidence and a sense of self worth.
Self Fullfilling Prophecy
What we expect, we get! When setting high expectations and supporting employees, employees will rise to meet expectations.
Try this experiment at home:
When you put a flea in an enclosed container, the flea will eventually give up trying to escape because it hits the lid. If you then remove the lid, you'll find the flea will not attempt to jump out because it doesn’t see that it can get out.
Similarly, supervisors place limits on their employees. Soon, the employee only sees that he or she can perform within the limits of the box placed around him or her.
