Appointment basis (term of service) is the number of months the employee will work during a full year.
| Appointment Type | Appointment Basis May Be: |
| Academic Teaching/Research Faculty* | 9 or 12 month
|
| Administrative/Professional Faculty* | 9 or 12 month |
| Academic Wage/Short Term | 12 month only |
| Classified Staff | 9, 10, 11 or 12-month (see below)
|
| Clinical Fellow | Typically 12-month; could be 9-month |
| Research Associate (Post Doc) | Typically 12-month; could be 9-month |
| Temporary Staff | 12 month only |
On a 9-month appointment basis, the job begin date and job end date must correlate with term start and end dates.
* For unclassified appointments, the Banner employee class (ECLS) designation will indicate whether the appointment basis is 9 or 12 month. Examples:
- UA employee class: 9-month teaching/research position
- UF employee class: 12-month non-teaching/research position
