I am pleased to share that OSU is beginning work on a Job Category and Compensation Program for Professional Faculty positions. The development of this program is one of the University’s top priorities.
Our ability to recruit and retain professional talent requires a competitive and equitable compensation program that reflects our culture and work environment. Our compensation program should be externally competitive, internally equitable, regularly updated, easily understood, and financially responsible.
After completing a review of proposals and extensive interviews with several professional consulting firms, OSU engaged Sibson Consulting (a Human Resources consulting firm that is nationally recognized in Higher Education) to assist with this project. Sibson is working with a Steering Committee, which I chair, and a Project Team, both of which include members from across functions, the Faculty Senate, and the Professional Faculty Leadership Association (PFLA).
The Project Team, with assistance from Sibson Consulting, will develop a Job Category Program and associated compensation philosophy. In addition, they will analyze Professional Faculty position roles, responsibilities, and requirements, determine market competitiveness, and assess internal equity of salaries.
Our work will lead to the development of a job grouping structure with pay practices that will assist the University in creating an improved process for managing salaries for Professional Faculty. The scope of this project does not include health benefits, leaves or other pay-related policies.
We anticipate the project to be completed around the late September 2012 timeframe.
We will provide periodic updates regarding the status of the project work through a designated website, email updates, and conversations with the Faculty Senate and PFLA. In addition, you may contact members of the Steering Committee or the Project Team. A listing of these individuals has been provided below.
