Requests have been made to modify the closing date of eSET. The requests fall into three categories: 1) close before finals; (2) close after finals but before grade-release week; and (3) close at the end of grade-release week, with grade access blocked to students until evaluations are completed. Because adjusting the eSET closing date may have unanticipated effects in response rates and scores, it is important to have data to make an informed decision and not become prematurely “locked into” a decision that may adversely impact faculty or students. Thus, the Office of APAA will conduct a pilot study in the Fall 2012, Winter 2013, and Spring 2013 to investigate the potential effects of eSET closing dates on student response rates and eSET scores.
We currently have 2 terms of data closing eSET at the close of grade-release week and 2 terms of data closing after finals but before grade-release week. In the Winter 2013 term we will close eSETs prior to finals. A second term of closing eSETs before finals may also occur in the Spring 2013 term.
