The Baccalaureate Core Committee (BCC) recognizes that the Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 courses were implemented prior to the current pilot review, which incorporates student assessment into the category review process. However, the form still needs to be completed and include reflection upon how the Baccalaureate Core Student Learning Outcomes (BC-SLOs) were/can be assessed in the course. For example, are there existing assessments that align with the BC-SLOs and if not, what is planned for this to occur? Please provide descriptions of the existing or planned assessments.
A question that ultimately needs to be answered is “How are students in this course doing with respect to achieving each relevant Baccalaureate Core Category Learning Outcome?” The BCC is NOT asking for an upload of data into the form, but is seeking descriptions of processes for collecting data and reflecting on that data to answer that important question. The expectation is that Units will archive their data somehow and maintain supporting processes suited to the Unit’s local culture. Some tools have been developed as a resource for data tracking.
We invite honesty in the evaluation of where a course stands – this lets the BCC know the status of each course, and, more importantly, it provides a roadmap of next steps in refining that course. Please visit the Baccalaureate Core assessment website for step-by-step instructions. An example of the types of answers we may see at this point in time is provided.
From this point forward, the BCC will be asking for the results of reflection, analysis, and course planning that are based on data.
