News:
- Oregon State University has reduced its TOEFL score requirements for undergraduate university admission. New TOEFL requirements are 71 iBT with minimum subscores of 15, or 525 on the paper-based test. The IELTS requirement has been reduced to 6 for undergraduates (5.5 for conditional admission), and 6.5 for most graduate departments. As always, there is no minimum TOEFL for ELI admission. For more on OSU admission requirements, see http://oregonstate.edu/admissions/international/requirements.html
- The ELI will be offering a 9-week summer term starting in Summer 2008. We feel this will let us offer more time for classes and give students more time to enjoy the wonderful Oregon summer.
- Interested in homestays? The ELI now offers homestays through OvECS. For information, contact http://www.azhomestay.com/
- If you are coming to OSU or to the ELI's intensive English program, you will need to have proof of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination before you can begin classes. Please contact
immunizations@orst.edu for more information.
- If you are in Tokyo, please visit our
Liaison Office for more information abut the ELI.
- Two English Language Institute faculty members have been selected by the Department of State to work as English Language Fellows in Ankara, Turkey during the 2007-08 academic year. Michael Witbeck, currently Technology Coordinator at the ELI, will be working with the Turkish Ministry of National Education in developing online courses for grades 4-12 and facilitating teacher training seminars in computer assisted language learning.
Mission:
The English Language
Institute at Oregon State University is
dedicated to bringing the highest quality English language instruction
and teacher training to the field of international education. English
language learners -- teens and adults -- can join us in Corvallis or
through distance education to study English, learn about US
culture, and be prepared for academic work at a US
university. ESL, EFL, and foreign language teachers can join
us to learn about the best practices in the language classroom,
including how to improve teaching with computer software and the
Internet. (Read the full Mission Statement.)
