Stems: prostrate to decumbent; sometimes rooting at nodes; twigs red-brown, rounded, smooth, puberulent, rigid.
Leaves: evergreen, opposite; not clustered; stipules thickened, persistent; petioles to 2 mm; blades narrowly oblanceolate, cuneate-oblong or oblong-obovate, 0.4--1.5 x 0.2--0.7 cm, bases cuneate, 1-veined, margins slightly revolute, usually 3-toothed at tip, tips truncate, abaxially pale green, veins usually hairy, microscopically canescent between, adaxially usually bright green, glabrous, plane or sometimes slightly concave.
Inflorescences: axillary, raceme-like, to 2 cm.
Flowers: white to blue or lavender.
Fruits: globular, 5--6 mm broad, smooth, horns lateral, minute; valves crests 0.
Cytology: 2 n = 24 (M.A. Nobs, 1963)
Flowering: in spring.
Habitat: dry slopes, usually on serpentine, open flats in chaparral or coniferous forest; 600--1800 m.
