What is Ecotheology?

By Susan Power Bratton

abstract

Ecotheology, unlike abstract cosmology or theology of nature, guides Christian interaction with the environment. Ecotheology addresses the value of other creatures and God's intent for the cosmos. Ecotheology also develops ethical models that consider politics, economics, and the practical issues surrounding human need for sustenance from agriculture, fisheries and other resource based industries. Although Christian ecotheology can not replace intelligent environmental policy, it can encourage constructive engagement with environmental problems and inspire us to better environmental care.
