MarcEdit -- Your complete free MARC editing utility MarcEdit Header

MarcEdit: Technical Details

System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 95, Windows 98, WindowME, NT 4+, 2000, XP -- MarcEdit will run on Windows NT 3.5, but the setup program does not support Windows NT 3.5's 16 bit architecture. If you are currently using Windows NT 3.5 and would like to use MarcEdit, just let me know. I do have an older 16 bit setup program that will work on Windows NT 3.5.
  • RAM: 8 MB (minimum); 32 MB+ (recommended)
  • Disk space: 10.5 MB (setup); 5 MB (application)
  • Windows Requirements: Riched20.dll version 3+. This library is installed with any current Microsoft Application since 1999, but if you have Internet Explorer 5+ or Office 97, you should have the library on your system. The application makes use of Microsoft's RichEdit20.dll, version 3.0 which ships with IE 5+. If this file isn't present, then the MarcEditor will not be able to utilize Unicode functionality. If you are unsure of what version of the control you have on your system, simply go to: C:\Windows (for Win9x) or C:\Winnt (for NT/200/XP) \system32\riched20.dll. Right click on the file and select properties. Simply click on the version tab and make sure it is higher and version 3.0. If you need to update the software, you can do it by downloading Microsoft's HTML help, which is distributed at: http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/psdkredist.htm. The reason this wasn't included in the setup, is that any user with Win2k/Office 2000 or a recent version of IE would not need the updated files. Please note, if not having this file starts to become an issue, I'll simple re-create the installation files so that it is included.
  • Special Requirements: On NT systems (this includes Windows NT, 2000, XP) you must have administrative permissions to install MarcEdit. This is because the installation program adds a MarcEdit entry to the Windows Registry and associates .mrc,.mrk and .mrk8 files with the MarcEdit application

Development Cycle:

I try to update MarcEdit every 8 months, with bug fixes being releases 1-2 weeks (or earlier) for their reported date.
